The UBS Hong Kong Open has always been one of the most important golf tournaments in the region. The tournament will be taking on a bigger significance this year, as they will be the curtain raiser for the European Tour 2018 Season.
The tri-sanctioned event (between the European Tour, Asian Tour and the Hong Kong Golf Association) has an illustrious list of winners that includes Padraig Harrington, Miguel Angel Jiménez, José María Olazábal, Rory McIlroy and Colin Montgomerie. Come 23 November 2017, the best golfers from Asia and Europe vying for a spot alongside these luminaries.
Defending champion Sam Brazel beat some of the game’s biggest names for the coveted trophy and his first Asian Tour title. In particular, he was one shot ahead of Ryder Cup player Rafa Cabrera Bello. It was also his first Asian Tour title. That particular Sunday, six players shared the lead, including Masters Champion Danny Willett and the current Race to Dubai leader Tommy Fleetwood. But it was Brazel who emerged victorious courtesy of a birdie at the last.
